Laramie High School freshman Jackson McClaren shot an 84 Thursday on the first day of the Wheatland Invitational and is in fourth place after the first round.
The tournament was the season opener in Wyoming high school golf.
McClaren is five shots off the lead of Cheyenne Central’s Ethan Cates with a 79 while Cheyenne East’s Granston Webb had an 82 and Torrington’s Jordan Malm 83.
LHS junior Braden Six added a 97 whiles sophomores Titus Wookey (102), Andrew Stannard (103) and Thayne Thatcher (106) rounded out the Plainsmen’s scoring.
The Lady Plainsmen were led by senior Kenzie Yeend with a 92, good for a tie for second behind Torrington’s Caleigh Essert’s 71.
Sophomore Cameron Nagy shot a 98 and senior Emily Cattles a 126 for the Lady Plainsmen.
No team scores were available. The final round starts at 9 a.m. today.
