CHEYENNE – Junior Lawson Lovering scored 14 points to help No. 1-ranked Cheyenne Central to a 65-46 win at Thunder Basin on Friday in Gillette.

The Indians also got 11 points from sophomore Nathanial Talich and 10 from junior Brady Storebo.

“(Thunder Basin has) been leading the state in scoring, so for us to hold them at our average was great,” Central coach Tagg Lain said. “I’m disappointed that we fouled so much and got into foul trouble during the first half, but we had a great defensive effort.”

Newcastle 36
Burns 33

CHEYENNE – Carter Kirkbride scored a game-high 15 points, but it wasn't enough as Burns dropped a 36-33 contest at Newcastle on Friday.

The Broncs (2-15 overall, 0-4 Class 3A Southeast Quadrant) led 10-6 after the first quarter and 19-13 at halftime.

Caden David posted six points for Burns, while Kaden Lakin and Tate Bishop each finished with four.

"This was a tough one to swallow," first-year Broncs coach Kurtis Suloff said. "We had a good defensive game plan, we just couldn’t get enough going on the offensive end. We had several chances at the end of the game to tie it, we just couldn’t get it to fall. Chance Kelly had a great game guarding one of the best offensive players in the state. Carter Kirkbride was huge in the post and dominated down low the whole game. We are getting better and are close to breaking through."

Burns hosts Mitchell, Nebraska, at 4:30 p.m. today.
