CHEYENNE – Junior Kelsey Basart scored a game-high 21 points to help No. 1-ranked Cheyenne Central to a 59-40 victory over Campbell County on Saturday in Gillette.

The Lady Indians led 29-22 at halftime, but fell behind early in the third when Campbell County started the second half on an 8-0 run.

“We called timeout, relaxed and regrouped from there,” Central coach Glen Kirkbride said. “We held them to four points in the fourth quarter by playing pretty danged good defense.”

Sophomore Jordan Jones added 16 points for Central (15-2 overall), while senior Ellie Fearneyhough chipped in with 10.

CHEYENNE – Third-ranked Thunder Basin had four players score in double figures during a n 81-65 victory over No. 2 Cheyenne East on Saturday in Gillette.

Sydney Solem led the Bolts with 21 points, while Molly Strub and Gabby Drube scored 14 apiece. Jersie Taylor chipped in with 11.

“We didn’t come in locked in defensively,” second-year East coach Eric Westling said. “I liked the effort our kids showed in the second half when we cut it to single digits in the third. It got away from us after that, but I liked their resilience. We have to go to work Monday and get it figured out.”

Senior guard Ky Buell paced East (16-3 overall) with 31 points and nine rebounds. Freshman Boden Liljedahl added 14 points.

CHEYENNE – Junior Riley VanTassell scored 11 points, but it wasn’t enough for Cheyenne South during a 65-40 loss to Natrona County on Saturday in Casper.

The Lady Bison trailed 20-2 after the first quarter.

Junior Calysta Martinez chipped in with 10 points for South (5-13 overall).

CHEYENNE – Junior guard Angelica Gutierrez scored 11 points to lead Mitchell, Nebraska, to a 47-18 victory Saturday in Burns.

“We just have to make baskets. That’s what it comes down to,” Burns coach Barry Ward said.

Senior Harkiran Kaur paced the Lady Broncs with five points.

Burns was without leading scorer Rylee Ward, who suffered a knee injury during Friday’s game at Newcastle.
