CHEYENNE – The Cheyenne Central girls finished second at the Wyoming state indoor track and field meet Saturday in Gillette.
The Lady Indians finished with 93 team points. Laramie claimed its first title with 112.
Central freshman Jordan Stoddard cleared 5 feet, 4 inches to win high jump. Stoddard – who attends Southeast High in Yoder – also was part of the Indians’ runner-up 4x400-meter relay team. McKell Brenchley, Jess Salinas and Elizabeth Prescott rounded out the team that finished in 4 minutes, 11.69 seconds.
Senior Claudia Miller finished second in the 1,600 (5:18.60), and third in the 800 (2:23.68). Cheyenne East senior MacKenzie Marler was fifth in the 1,600 (5:25.73) and eighth in the 800 (2:25.59).
Rawlins sophomore Sydney Thorvaldson – who was running for Laramie – won both of those events.
Cheyenne South senior Becca Monahan heaved the shot put 38 feet, 1½ inches to claim the state title. Central junior Kaitlyn Migneault was second (37-11½).
East junior Amira Cummings placed second in the 55-meter dash (7.5 seconds).
The East boys split third with Casper Natrona County. Sheridan won the boys state title.
Thunderbirds’ senior Jefferson Danso won triple jump (47-0¼) and took third in the 55-meter hurdles (8.10).
Danso also ran the second leg of East’s runner-up 4x200 relay team. Seniors Sam Hageman and Dakota Merritt and junior Jacee Sheets rounded out the team that finished in 1:32.44.
Merritt also was the runner-up in the 200 (22.91).
East senior Scott Uglow placed third in shot put with a school-record heave of 52-9¼.
