CHEYENNE – Juniors Jayla Jones and Ellie Fearneyhough scored 17 and 16 points, respectively, to help the Lady Indians to a 54-39 win over Fort Collins (Colorado) Poudre on Friday.

“The whole game was pretty sloppy,” second-year Central coach Glen Kirkbridge said. “We went on a couple little runs and shot the ball well. (Jones) hit a couple 3s and she got on the boards.

“(Fearneyhough) did a little bit of everything. She got boards, she got offensive boards and putbacks. She made a couple buckets when we needed them.”

The Indians (2-0) close the Battle of the Rockies tournament against Fort Collins High at 10 a.m. today, and Legacy High at 2:30 p.m.

East wins two in Fort Collins

CHEYENNE – Junior guard Ky Buell scored 35 points across two games to help the Cheyenne East girls basketball team pick up a pair of victories at the Battle of the Rockies on Friday in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Buell had 16 in a 47-29 win over Fort Collins High. She added 19 in a 66-42 win over Rocky Mountain High of Fort Collins.

“I was extremely happy with the way our kids played in both games,” first-year Lady Thunderbirds coach Eric Westling said. “The scores don’t reflect the games, especially against Rocky Mountain. We only had eight players, and the kids persevered and gutted out a win.”

Buell also had nine rebounds and nine steals across the two contests.

Junior Madison Blaney netted 12 points against Rocky Mountain, while senior forward Kalee McEwan scored nine points and pulled down nine rebounds.

East closes the tournament against Fort Collins Poudre at 11:30 a.m. today.
