About the Indians: Central placed seventh at last winter’s state meet with 77.50 points. … Smith led off the Indians’ fifth-place 200-yard freestyle relay squad that finished in 1 minute, 30.91 seconds. … The Indians are looking to fill the shoes of Alex Allison, who graduated this past spring. Allison was one of Central’s top swimmers last season and placed sixth in the 200 IM. … Sutphin, Johnson, Schaad and Waller headline the returners with state experience. … “We are young, (and) it will take us some time to get it going,” Miller said. “(We) hope to be our best at the end (of the season), when it matters the most. We are striving for 15 state qualifiers.”

About the T-Birds: Experience resonates throughout the T-Birds’ roster. … Marshall (50-yard freestyle), Schoene (200 free) and Yates (diving) all reached the Class 4A state finals last winter en route to helping East to a fifth-place team finish with 140 points. “The boys are working hard, and we are looking forward to the season,” Dobler said. “We have changed up our training from years past, and the boys are responding well. It has been difficult building overall chemistry with swimmers and divers being in different facilities. However, this team understands these challenges, and they have the grit to work through these challenges and become stronger.”

About the Bison: South returns three swimmers who appeared at the Class 4A state meet last winter. Fawcett placed eighth in the 100-yard backstroke, while Anderson also finished eighth in the 100 breaststroke, and Price took 11th in the 500 freestyle. … The Bison scored 66 points at the state meet and finished ninth. … “We have a young team with some good senior leadership,” Garman said. “(I’m) excited to watch them grow and develop over the course of the season.”
