CASPER — The Laramie High girls swimming and diving team continued their dominance in the freestyle relays Saturday at the Kelly Walsh Invitational.

The Lady Plainsmen — undefeated in the 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays last season — claimed both events and broke the pool record in the 400 relay in 3 minutes, 46.62 seconds. LHS set the previous record last season when the Class 4A West Conference meet was there.

Current members of the 400 freestyle relay are in order: junior Katie McPherson, sophomore Anna Roesler and seniors Sage Morton and Olivia McPherson.

Olivia McPherson led off the 200 freestyle relay and was joined by senior Heidi Schroeder, Morton and Roesler to win in 1:43.73.

Individually, Olivia McPherson won the 50 freestyle (24.19) and 100 freestyle (53.90), Morton won the 200 freestyle (2:00.97) and 500 freestyle (5:20.75) and Roesler won the 100 butterfly (1:02.55).

On Friday, the Lady Plainsmen won their first head-to-head meet during a double-dual in Gillette. LHS beat Campbell County 107-76 and Thunder Basin 130-51.

The LHS girls also boosted their total of state qualifiers to 14 with four more additions on Friday. They were: senior Alyssa Dale 200 individual medley, junior Isabel Arnold in the 100 breaststroke, sophomore Mallorie Hamel in diving and freshman Maya Peterson in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.

Cross-country

LITTLETON, Colo. — The LHS cross-country teams competed in arguably the largest meet along the Front Range Saturday at the Liberty Bell Invitational on the course at Heritage High in Littleton, Colorado.

The Lady Plainsmen placed third out of 22 teams in the Division 2 category that featured 153 runners.

Senior Abigail Whitman paced the LHS girls with a seventh-place finish in 19:04.60. Senior Jayla Wulff (16th, 19:57.90) also placed in the top 20.

The Plainsmen were led by Steven Tyler’s ninth-place finish in 16:26.00 in a race that had 165 runners. The LHS boys placed seventh overall out of 24 teams.

Tennis

The LHS tennis teams competed in four total home duals on Friday and Saturday with the Plainsmen now at 8-3 overall and the Lady Plainsmen at 5-6.

On Saturday the LHS beat Rock Springs 5-0 and Sheridan 3-2. The Lady Plainsmen had a split with a 5-0 win against Rock Springs and a 4-1 loss to Sheridan.

Senior Kyle Moore notched two wins at No. 1 singles when he defeated Niro Woolsey of Rock Springs and Ethan Kutz of Sheridan in a tough, three-set battle.

Also going 2-0 on the Saturday was the No. 1 doubles team of sophomores Marcos and Sam Johnson-Noya and the No. 2 doubles team of senior Payson Allen and sophomore Zane Ferrell.

The Lady Plainsmen No. 3 doubles teams earned wins against Rock Springs and Sheridan, but with different teams. Junior Teagan Riedel and sophomore Abby Kersey beat Rock Springs and juniors Kayla Vasquez and Colby Stickelman beat Sheridan.

On Friday, the Plainsmen and Lady Plainsmen won against Campbell County with 3-2 dual scores. Against, Thunder Basin the Plainsmen won 4-1 and the Lady Plainsmen lost 3-2.

Notching two wins against their Gillette opponents were LHS’ Moore at No. 1 singles, the No. 2 doubles team of Allen and Ferrell and the No. 3 doubles team of Ruckman and Yost.

The Lady Plainsmen No. 2 doubles team of Senior Kate Dennis and juniro DaiJane Giron also went 2-0 on Friday.

Golf

The Plainsmen and Lady Plainsmen golfers competed at Rawlins Invitational Thursday and Friday.

The Plainsmen finished in second place out of 11 teams with 659 team strokes, just two behind team winner Cheyenne Central. The Lady Plainsmen were seventh out of eight teams with 712 strokes as the Central girls completed the team sweep with 538 strokes.

Lady Plainsman junior Camryn Nagy placed third individually with rounds of 93 and 85 for 178 strokes. Central’s Katie Cobb (92-84-176) and Jennifer Gillotti (90-87-177) were first and second, respectively.

The Plainsmen were paced by sophomore Jackson McClaren, who tied for third place with Cheyenne East’s Eli Cole. Both had identical rounds of 78 and 77 for 155 total strokes. Central’s Caden Jackson (71-72-143) won with East’s Granston Webb (73-78-151) runner-up.

Results from other LHS golfers competing at the tournament were not provided to the Boomerang.

Volleyball

Results and information from the Lady Plainsmen volleyball matches at the Gillette Invitational Friday and Saturday were not provided to the Boomerang.
