The Laramie High boys swimming team doesn’t often lose the opening event of a meet, the 200-yard medley relay.

It did Friday in a triple dual with Casper Kelly Walsh, Sheridan and Casper Natrona at the Laramie Pool.

The Plainsmen (5-0) recovered to beat the Trojans 103-83 while dominating the Broncos 144-36 and Mustangs 151-21.

Kelly Walsh actually won seven of the 12 events Friday. But Laramie’s overall talent and depth simply overwhelmed KW down the stretch.

“It was good test to see how tough they were going to be coming back and they proved themselves,” Laramie swimming coach Tom Hudson said. “It was good to see they had the ability to rebound.”

The Plainsmen won four individual events and one relay.

Max DeYoung continued his domination in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke. DeYoung won the 200 IM in 2 minutes, 2.36 seconds, 17 seconds ahead of runner-up Noah Richardson of Laramie (2:19.45). DeYoung swam a time of 54.10 seconds in the 100 backstroke, beating teammate Chris Bury (1:02.74).

Bury won diving as Laramie claimed the top four spots in the event. Bury’s winning mark was 254.75 points, with Trenton Hamel second with 220.10.

Collin Fontana had the other individual win in the 500 freestyle in 5:19.82.

Laramie closed the meet by winning the 400 freestyle relay in 3:31.22 with Connor Fontana, Noah Richardson, Rowan Kelly and Max DeYoung.

Laramie also qualified its 11th athlete for the upcoming state meet when Bryce Bienz swam a time of 24.46 in the 50 freestyle to place fourth.

The Plainsmen will next compete at 8 a.m. today in the Cheyenne Invitational at Cheyenne South.
