CHEYENNE – Cheyenne East junior Amos Solano went 4-0 to win the 120-pound weight class at the Shane Shatto Memorial Invitational on Saturday in Douglas.
Solano racked up three pins to earn outstanding wrestler honors. He bested Glenrock’s Tate Stoddard in the final, 5-3.
The Thunderbirds placed third in the 24-team field with 159 points.
Casper Kelly Walsh won the title (215 points), while Gillette’s Thunder Basin was second (178).
East junior Noah Gallegos (126 pounds) and sophomore Jackson Hesford (152) also advanced to the finals, but finished second.
Gallegos was pinned by Nate Rocheleau of Gering, Nebraska, in 4 minutes, 26 seconds. Hesford was pinned by Kelly Walsh’s Josh Kraus in 4:31.
The Thunderbirds also had David Stice (113) finish third.
Cheyenne Central captured eighth place. Junior 138-pounder Johnathan Vroman placed third with a 4-2 sudden-death victory over Cheyenne South senior Dominic Dominguez in the third-place bout.
Vroman finished the weekend 6-1. His only loss came by 6-3 decision in the first round.
South finished 19th, while Burns-Pine Bluffs took 11th.
Juniors Boe Clayson (170) and Kyle Thurin (182) finished as runners-up. Clayson lost an 11-3 major decision to Kelly Walsh’s Kole Kraus, while Thurin was pinned by Glenrock’s Ian Arnold in 5:21.
