The Rock River basketball teams will embark on the postseason at the Wyoming Class 1A East Regional Basketball Tournaments in Douglas at the recreation center and middle school.
The Lady Longhorns (13-7) are the No. 1 seed from the Southeast and will play Northeast No. 4 Hulett (5-13) at 5:30 p.m. today for the opening quarterfinals.
The Rock River girls ended the regular season with a 68-7 conference win against Guernsey-Sunrise on Saturday after a tough 34-33 nonconference loss to Encampment the night before.
The Lady Longhorns are led by seniors Delaney Qualls and Lydia Moore and junior Rachel Broyles.
Qualls averages a 1A third-best and team-high 17.4 points per game, including going a 1A third-best 80% (44 of 55) from the free-throw line. Lydia Moore adds 8.4 points to go with team-highs of 7.7 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game. Broyles has team-highs of 1.6 assists and 2.5 steals.
The Southeast No. 4 Longhorns (4-16) were supposed to have a play-in game Tuesday against Southeast No. 5 Glendo (0-12), but Glendo took a forfeit and the Rock River boys advanced to the regional tourney. The Longhorns will open with Northeast No. 1 Upton (20-1) at 1:30 p.m. today.
The Rock River boys finished the regular season with a 38-36 win against Guernsey-Sunrise.
The Longhorns are led by freshman Johnny Moore, and seniors Elijah Cox and Zariel Mallory-Coulter.
Johnny Moore has team-highs of 12.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. He also has a 1A third-best 1.3 blocks. Cox adds 7.8 points and a 1A sixth-best and team-high 3.7 assists. Mallory-Coulter chips in 7.7 points to go with a team-high 2.0 steals.
