The Rock River volleyball team improved to 5-1 to start the season after Saturday’s three-set win at Glendo in Class 1A Southeast Quadrant action.
The Lady Longhorns defeated the Eagles 25-14, 25-12, 25-13 for their first conference victory.
Rock River also notched nonconference wins against Kaycee, Upton, Hulett and Midwest and one loss against Class 2A Sundance.
The Lady Longhorns are led by four seniors: Lydia Moore, Delaney Qualls, Annetta Broyles and Andrea Bedard.
The other varsity players are juniors Rachel Broyles and Stephany Davis and freshmen Paige Flores, Bailey Dennett, Paige Dennett, Emerald Niswender and Azalia Lujan.
The Lady Longhorns will stay on the road for nonconference matches at Saratoga on Thursday and at Midwest on Friday.
First time, first place
The WYO Elite Cheer organization competed at its first ever competition Saturday at the 22nd annual Spirit Fest Championships at Elitch Gardens in Denver.
The Storm took 23 athletes comprised of two teams — youth and senior, and both won first place. The teams also added best sportsmanship awards for the entire competition.
WYO Elite Cheer, located at 803 Skyline Road, offers All Star cheerleading including prep cheer, stunts, tumbling, dance, private lessons and open gym classes.
The teams also perform at several community events throughout the year.
