CHEYENNE – Five Cheyenne American Legion Post 6 errors helped Phenom Texas rally from a seven-run deficit for an 8-7 win in an elimination game at the Connie Mack World Series on Tuesday.
Cheyenne led 7-0 heading into the bottom of the third. Phenom chipped away at the lead by scoring two runs in the third and one in both the fifth and sixth. The McKinney, Texas-based squad pushed across four runs in the bottom of the seventh to win.
Michael DiFiore – who had gone 0 for 3 with three strikeouts – lifted Phenom to victory with a two-run single to left field.
Cheyenne right fielder Aidan Colgan was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Leadoff-hitting second baseman Nico Vite’s only hit was a two-run double to center in the third. First baseman Cody Brooks also hit a run-scoring double in the third.
Right-hander Chandler David held the Sixers (51-25) hitless during his 4⅔ innings of relief work. He fanned eight batters.
The Sixers finish their season 51-25 overall.
