The Laramie Rangers American Legion baseball team got solid pitching in both of its games Saturday at the Mustangs Roundup Tournament in Fort Morgan, Colorado.
The result was a split as the Rangers lost their first game 4-3 to Sidney, Nebraska, and won the second 6-0 over Riverdale Ridge. Laramie is now 12-22 on the season.
Against Riverdale Ridge, Weston Morehouse and Michael Schutterle combined for a three-hitter. Morehouse allowed two hits over five innings and struck out eight. Schutterle allowed one hit over two innings and struck out two.
Laramie scored all of its runs over the final four innings. Aidan Morris had an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning, as did Riley Hogsett in the bottom of the fourth. Tyler Oppie had a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth. Jaykob Ahrenholtz drove in a run with a single in the bottom of the sixth.
The Rangers had six hits off two Riverdale Ridge pitchers. Those hits were by six different players.
Against Sidney, Darek Squires struck out 13 and allowed only three hits in 4 2/3 innings for the Rangers. However, Sidney scored single runs in the top of the fifth and sixth innings on passed ball and a wild pitch.
Morris had two of Laramie’s five hits, and drove in a run. The Rangers got a double by Caleb Eaton, and singles from Ramon Gomez and Michael Schutterle.
Laramie concludes play in this tournament at 9 a.m. today against Standley Lake, Colorado.
