Baseball

Hitting instruction: Wyoming Youth Baseball Foundation is offering individual private hitting lessons this summer from Reed Thompson at the organization’s north Cheyenne indoor practice facility. Thompson, a former player at Murray State University, is current the assistant varsity coach of the Cheyenne Mustangs.

The one-on-one lessons will be customized to the individual player, and will include instruction on all aspects of hitting, including fundamentals, mechanics, timing, bat speed, mental approach, pitch selection, practice drills and more.

Mustangs clinic: The Cheyenne Mustangs will hold their annual youth baseball clinic Tuesday, July 16, at Powers Field.

The camp is for players 7 to 14 years old, and runs from 9 a.m. to noon. The registration fee is $25. That fee includes an arm sleeve and treat following the clinic.

Basketball

Central girls camp DATE CHANGED: The date for the Cheyenne Central girls youth basketball camp has been changed to July 30-31.

The camp is for students currently in the fourth through eighth grades. The camp for fourth- through sixth-graders runs from 8-11 a.m. The camp for seventh- and eighth-graders runs from 1-4 p.m.

The cost is $45 per camper.

Cheerleading

Central clinic: The Cheyenne Central spirit squads will host a youth football cheer and dance clinic Friday, Aug. 30.

The clinic is for children between 3 and 13 years old, and will be held in the Central High commons area.

The cost is $45 per participant, and includes T-shirt, pom poms, tutu, snack and parent/sibling entrance into the Sept. 6 Central varsity football game, where the participants will perform the routine they learned.

Pre-registration is required, and can be completed by emailing whitney.whitworth@laramie1.org. In order to ensure poms, T-shirt and tutu, registration must be completed by July 9.

South clinic: The Cheyenne South spirit squads will hold their annual summer youth cheer clinic July 17-18.

The camp runs from 6-7:30 p.m. in the South High commons area both days.

It is for girls and boys as young as 4 years old. The cost is $80, with a discount for siblings. Participants will get a T-shirt, poms and a bow.

Registration must be received by June 17 to ensure shirts, poms and bows. Payment can be made the first day of the clinic.

Children will be taught basics of cheer, routines and three songs that will be performed as they march in the Cheyenne Frontier Days parade July 20.

Football

Central camp: The Cheyenne Central football team will conduct a youth football camp Aug. 5-7 at Riske Field.

The camp runs from 8-11 a.m. each day, and is for players currently in the third through eighth grades. The cost is $60 per camper, and includes a T-shirt and football.

Golf

Josh Creel clinics: Web.com Tour golfer Joshua Creel – a 2008 Cheyenne Central graduate – will host a pair of free golf clinics Monday, July 8, at Kingham Prairie View Golf Course, 3601 Windmill Road.

The clinic is limited to the first 100 children. The age limit is 15 years old.

The first session runs from noon to 2 p.m. Registration for that session can be completed at http://bit.ly/CreelClinicOne.

The second session runs from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Registration for that session can be completed at http://bit.ly/CreelClinicTwo.

Taco John’s is sponsoring the clinic, and will provide free tacos and drinks to participants.

Rugby

Youth camp: Cheyenne Youth Rugby’s annual summer camp will take place Mondays in July.

The camp for children in kindergarten through second grade goes from 5:30-6:15 p.m. The camp for children in third through sixth grades goes from 6:15-7:15 p.m. Both camps are at Pointe Park off Gardenia Drive.

The base registration fee is $15 per child. Registration with a T-shirt is $25. Registration with T-shirt and rugby ball is $35.

Women’s team: The Cheyenne Lady Outlaws women’s rugby team is looking for players for the upcoming season.

The team welcomes all women 18-99 years old, regardless of their fitness level or rugby experience.

Anyone interested in playing can drop by practice at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Forum 619, 619 S. Greeley Highway.

Volleyball

East camp: The Cheyenne East volleyball team will hold a youth volleyball camp July 8-9.

The camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon all three days, and is for children currently in the second through eighth grades.

The cost is $35 for preregistered campers, and $20 for the second child from the same family. Same-day registration is available prior to the camp for $40. Campers will get a T-shirt.

Players will work on attacking, setting and passing.
