Batten down the hatches as winds return with a vengeance today. This bout could be especially nasty with the National Weather Service cautioning gusts could reach 80 mph in the wind-prone gap areas of Arlington and Bordeaux. On the plus side, temperatures will be mild for mid-January. Expect a brief episode of snow today into tomorrow morning, especially in the mountains. Winds ease later Friday, and bouts of snow continue in the mountains all weekend, providing at least a few inches of fresh fluff. The deep freeze arrives later next week, but the models are fuzzy on just how far south the bitter cold will drop down from Canada. We might get a glancing blow of the extremely nippy temperatures, but expect a good blast of cold in about 10 days.
Conditions at the Snowy Range Ski and Recreation Area are quite good with the repeated spells of fresh snow. It’s a popular place on weekends. Lift ticket sales are limited due to COVID-19 precautions. Make reservations and purchase lift tickets online well in advance if you plan to ski on a weekend. They filled up last weekend, and tickets are already sold out for this Saturday and Sunday.
