CHEYENNE – The Laramie County Community College men’s basketball team came close to their second win of the season, falling 80-77 to Trinidad State Junior College on Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles had all six of its scoring players hit double digits. Cortney Dean led with 15, while both Mateo Zovko and Ashraf Tchadouwa finished with 14. Erik Oliver scored 13 while Chris Grace had 11 and Damien Perry scored 10.
“We put ourselves in a position to win the game,” LCCC head coach Jason Ficca said. “We had the ball on the last possession and got a look to win. We had a chance to win it against a pretty solid team. I thought we got a lot better.”
LCCC shot 42.5% (31-73) overall and 60% (6-10) from the line, while Trinidad finished 40% (28-70) overall and 80% (16-20) from the line.
“We were pretty much exclusively zone defense and it was effective,” Ficca said. “I think we’re going to make it our base moving forward. We made strides defensively today and just a few timely shots that didn’t fall for us (made the difference).”
David Muenkat led Trinidad in scoring with 17 points and Dylan West had 16.
The Golden Eagles face Utah State Eastern on Saturday. LCCC won their only game of the season against Utah State Eastern on Nov. 2, 84-82.
