SAN JOSE, Calif. — University of Wyoming redshirt freshman center Keegan Cryder was named to the 18th annual Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-America team Monday.

Cryder was one of two Mountain West players named to the team. The other was New Mexico punt returner Marcus Hayes, who has transferred and will play at Kansas State.

The 6-foot-4, 291-pound Cryder, who is from Littleton, Colorado, started all 12 games for UW at center or guard in 2018. Cryder started three gamiest left guard, one at right guard and the final eight games at center.

Cryder played every offensive snap last season -- 771 plays. He earned an 88.9 percent make-the-play grade and a 97 percent effort grade. Cryder had 52 knock-down blocks, and allowed only one quarterback sack.

He helped an offense that averaged 199.4 rushing yards per game, and blocked for senior running back Nico Evans who led the Mountain West with 1,325 rushing yards.

Cryder is the third UW player over the last four seasons to earn FWAA Freshman All-America honors. Safety Andrew Wingard made the team in 2015 and linebacker Logan Wilson of Casper did it in 2016.

A 13-person panel of nationally prominent college football experts represented voted for the this year’s honorees. Eighteen of the players were true freshmen, and 14 were redshirt freshmen.
