John Hoyland, a freshman walk-on kicker who was not slated to start the game, had a debut of going 4-for-4 in field goal attempts and 2-for-2 for 14 total points. Hoyland also converted a game-long 42-yarder with 23 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. Levi Williams, a redshirt freshman quarterback, entered on the first drive after a serious leg injury to starting redshirt sophomore quarterback Sean Chambers. Williams, who passed for 227 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 40 yards and two scores, helped engineer a Cowboys’ comeback for 22 unanswered late in the third quarter and into the fourth to tie the game at 28-28.
