LARAMIE -- The University of Wyoming football team will play a home-and-home series against Brigham Young, a source confirmed to WyoSports Tuesday.

The contract is expected to be finalized over the next 30 days. However, the source said UW will play at BYU in 2022 and the return game in Laramie will be in 2024.

Once the contract is signed, UW will have all of its nonconference games scheduled through 2023. It still needs one more nonconference game for 2024.

UW and BYU were in the same conference dating back to 1922. BYU left the Mountain West after the 2010 season to be an independent in football, and joined the West Coast Conference in other sports.

The last time the two teams played was in the 2016 Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego, which UW lost 24-21. UW and BYU have played each other in football 78 times. BYU leads the series 45-30-3, has won eight consecutive meetings and 31 of the past 38 games.
