COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The Mountain West announced its 2019-20 men’s conference basketball schedule Thursday, and the first week of conference play will begin in early December.
Games will be played Dec. 4 and Dec. 7, but won’t resume until early January of 2020.
This was done to play the MW Tournament March 4-7 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Games that will be played on television, and game times, are expected to be completed by late August. Some game days may be moved for television.
The University of Wyoming opens MW play Wednesday, Dec. 4 at home against Air Force, then hosts New Mexico Saturday, Dec. 7
For the seventh consecutive year, the MW will utilize an 18-game league schedule. Each team will play eight opponents twice (home-and-home) and two opponents once.
UW plays UNLV and San Jose State once. It hosts UNLV Jan. 11 and plays at San Jose State Feb. 1.
Both games with Border War rival Colorado State will be on Saturday. The first one is Jan. 4 at Colorado State, the second is Feb. 15 in Laramie.
The MW also released its women’s conference schedule Thursday with a similar 18-game format. The Cowgirls will play the same opponents as the men on the same days, just at opposite locations. However, the final week of the regular season will be on Monday, Feb. 24 and Thursday, Feb. 27.
The MW Tournament for the women will be March 1-4 at the Thomas & Mack Center.
