University of Wyoming golfer Erin Sargent will begin play at the 2019 U.S. Women’s Amateur Monday at the Old Waverly Golf Course in West Point, Mississippi. She is scheduled to tee off at 11:35 a.m.
The first two days of the tournament will feature 18 holes of stroke play. Among the 156-player field, the top 64 players will advance to match play on Wednesday.
“It’s an amazing opportunity to participate in this tournament and especially to represent Wyoming is an honor,” Sargent said in a news release from UW Saturday. “I’m really looking forward to it. We play on some of the most beautiful and well-maintained courses.”
“Going in to the tournament I want to really enjoy the opportunity. I want to go in with a lot of confidence, feel like I belong there and compete with some of the top golfers in the world. I think I can do that, and we will see what happens.”
Sargent qualified for the tournament after a 1-under par 71 to finish in a tie for first at a U.S. Women’s Amateur Qualifier in July in Aurora, Colorado.
A senior from Longmont, Colorado, Sargent recently finished second at both the Wyoming and Colorado State Amateur Championships, along with a runner-up finish at the Colorado match play championship this summer.
