CHEYENNE – The Southside Sluggers boxing club won four of its seven bouts at the Wyoming State Silver Gloves tournament Saturday at the BEAST Foundation in Cheyenne.
Alijah Cordova defeated Larry Zlonke of Guadalupe Boxing Club of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, in the 8- and 9-year-old, 50-pound division.
Ray Abeyta topped Andrew Zayas of Top Notch of Greeley, Colorado, in the 10-year-old, 105-pound group.
Haevan Gonzales downed Jeremiah Vasquez of Top Notch in the 10- and 11-year-old, 70-pound division.
Gino Brown rounded out the winners when he stopped Ivan Garcia of Rawlins’ Team G in the third round during a 10-year-old, 65-pound bout.
Jacovy Dyson dropped his bout of Jose Hielo of Denver’s HOPE boxing club in the 10-year-old, 60-pound division. Soren Renko lost to HOPE’s Axel Gonzalez in the 15-16, 140-pound class. Joseph Garcia lost to HOPE’s Angel Sanchez in the 13-14, 114-pound group.
The Sluggers will next compete at the Region 7 Silver Gloves on Jan. 3 in Boise, Idaho. Region 7 consists of Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and Montana.
