CHEYENNE – The Cheyenne East girls clinched the East Region’s No. 3 seed to the Class 4A state tournament by beating Cheyenne Central and Laramie on Saturday in Sheridan.
The Lady Thunderbirds opened the day by eliminating Central from the East Regional tourney with a 56-48 win. They grabbed the No. 3 seed with a 45-25 win over Laramie.
“I was proud of them coming back from Friday night and playing the way they needed to,” East coach Eric Westling said. “They played for each other, so it was fun to watch.”
Senior guard Bradie Schlabs scored 29 points and dished out four assists against Central. She made 17 of her 20 free-throw attempts. Sophomore Cashlynn Haws added nine rebounds and nine points.
Central got 18 points from junior Taylin Wade, while classmate Izzy Kelly added 10 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter.
Against Laramie, Schlabs scored 14 points and dished out four assists. Peyton Hall added 11 points, while Haws netted nine points and pulled down eight rebounds. Jade Brown hauled in 14 rebounds to go with four points.
East (24-3) opens the 4A state tournament against West No. 2 seed Star Valley at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Casper College.

Wyoming Indian 48 Pine Bluffs 32
CHEYENNE – Wyoming Indian outscored Pine Bluffs 28-16 in the second half to pick up a 48-32 victory in the third-place game of the Class 2A state tournament Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Avery Gray paced Pine Bluffs with 11 points and five rebounds, while junior Jessica Hoffman added nine points and eight rebounds. Avery Sweeter chipped in with eight points.
