CHEYENNE – Cheyenne South junior Trey Downham broke his own school record in one of the two events he won at Friday’s Burns Invitational.
Downham finished the 300-meter hurdles in 41.55 seconds, which reset South’s school record. He also cleared 6 feet to win high jump.
Downham joined Austin Moehr, Forrest Heschke and Sam Thoms on the winning 4x400-meter relay team (3 minutes, 39.42 seconds).
The Bison’s 4x100 relay team of Thoms, Jayden McNeill, Damien Pino and Broden Burns won in 45.86 seconds. Burns also placed second in high jump (5-10).
The Burns boys won the team title. Senior Ethan Norris won the 110-meter hurdles in 16.03 seconds and placed second in both the 300 hurdles (42.57) and pole vault (12 feet, 6 inches).
Burns junior Cooper Sanchez was runner-up in the 3,200 (11:49.23) and third in the 1,600 (5:24.27).
The Burns team of Mason Medley, Zane Howes, Shaw Martin and Hunter Munson won the 1,600 sprint medley relay (3:50.61). Martin, Howes, Medley and Mason Terry took second in the 4x400 (3:40.08).
On the girls’ side, Pine Bluffs junior Jessica Hoffman won discus with a toss of 118 feet, 6 inches. She cleared 5-2 to take second in high jump.
The Lady Hornets 1,600 sprint medley relay team of freshmen Avery Gray, Kiertsyn Klinginsmith, Keefer Fornstrom and sophomore Reese Graves won in 5:02.49.
Burns senior Payton Pollard placed second in the 1,600-meter run (7:19.59) and 3,200 (14:47.16). Burns sophomore Brynn Bach cleared 9-6 to win pole vault. Senior Bella Laguna was second (8-6).
East girls, Central boys win Greeley Twilight
CHEYENNE – Cheyenne East got two individual wins and a relay victory from both senior Taliah Morris and junior Nadia Burdett en route to the team championship at the Greeley Twilight Invitational on Friday night in Greeley, Colorado.
Morris won the 200-meter dash in 24.81 seconds, which was 2.19 seconds faster than the runner-up. She also won long jump with a leap of 19 feet 2¾ inches, which was 2-4½ further than the runner-up. Morris then joined seniors Bradie Schlabs, Kendra Upton and Emma Smith on the winning 4x400 relay team (4 minutes, 12.91 seconds).
Burdett claimed wins in the 100 hurdles (16.28) and triple jump (34- 11½). She also took third in the 100 (13.51) and joined Schlabs, Upton and sophomore Queana Fonseca on the winning 4x100 relay team (50.05).
Schlabs finished second in the 300 hurdles (47.40), while Upton took second in the 400 (1 minute, 0.49 seconds).
The Lady Thunderbirds finished with 167 points in the team standings, while Cheyenne Central was third with 89.5.
East also got a win from Clara Kerschner in shot put. Her mark of 36-4 was a half-inch better than the runner-up. The 4x200 relay team of Alina Olmos, Gemeny Aparicio, Kaelyn Ronnau and Kaitlyn Marcum won in 1:52.52. ROnnau was second in the 100 hurdles (16.55).
Freshman Maggie Madsen placed second in both the 800 (2:24.24) and 3,200 (11:30.02). Senior Gracie Craig was the runner-up in the 1,600 (5:37.93) and classmate Ynes Ronnau took third in the 800 (2:26.87).
Central’s girls got wins in the 100 and 400 from sophomore Kalyanna Flores. She crossed the finish line in the 100 in 13.06 seconds and the 400 in 57.70.
Senior Emma Hofmeister won the 1,600 (5:32.87). Flores and Hofmeister joined Renee Wilson and Adrienne Howard on the runner-up 4x400 relay team (4:13.46). Indians junior Karson Tempel placed third in both the 100 hurdles (16.82) and long jump (16-8¼).
Central’s boys won the meet with 175 points, while East finished second (111).
Indians sophomore Tegan Krause won both the 100 (11.14) and 200 (22.07). He joined seniors Kain Urduales, Lucas Linde and Carson Brown on the winning 4x400 team (3:28.80). Urdiales won the 400 (52.17).
Trevor Schmidt won the 1,600 (4:32.49) while classmate Jonah Rigg Placed third (4:49.77) and junior Braden Birge was fourth (5:02.89). Rigg and Schmidt joined Race Morrell and Logan Moore on the winning 4x800 quartet (8:21.78). Morrell also won the 800 (2:00.56).
Central junior Charlie Coles leap 41-4 to win triple jump. He also placed third in long jump (19-2½). Junior Nicholas Lewis cleared 15-6 to win pole vault.
Sophomore Campbell Smith finished second in the 300 hurdles (43.44) while classmate Logan Kramer took third (43.71). Kramer also finished third in the 110 hurdles (18.01).
East got a win from the 4x100 relay team of Colby Olson, Gavin Neider, Kolbe Dierks and Rayshawn Johnson (44.23). Central’s team of Miles Porwoll, Mason Counter, Roman Smith and Josh Galbert finished second (44.36).
Sophomore Lucas Steveson was runner-up in both the 1,600 (4:34.66) and 3,200 (9:51.49). Derek Murphy was second in triple jump (40-11¼), while Brayden Colbert took second in the 800 (2:06.50) and Kameron Nath was second in high jump (5-11).
Noah Jackson was second in shot put (46-10) and third in discus (124-5). Jesse Kirkbride finished third in shot put (45-8) and Brennan Lam was fourth (43-5). Tanner Stehwein tossed the discus 132-8 to finished second.
