Rock River girls basketball coach Terrance Reese was asked for a goal for his Lady Longhorns for the Wyoming Class 1A state basketball tournament Wednesday.
His answer: play Saturday.
Behind a combined 34 points and 14 rebounds from Lydia Moore and Andi Todd, Rock River will do just that.
The Lady Longhorns beat Arvada-Clearmont 42-27 in the consolation round of the 1A girls tournament Friday at Casper College.
It was an historic win for the program. Rock River (20-4) won a game at the state basketball tournament for the first time ever, after going 0-15 prior to Friday. That mark included an opening-round 59-46 loss to St. Stephens on Thursday.
But there was no hangover for the Lady Longhorns.
Rock River jumped out early on Arvada-Clearmont and never trailed in the game. The Lady Longhorns led 12-7 after one quarter and 19-10 at the half.
Moore finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds for her second straight double-double in the tournament. Moore was 8 of 17 from the field and also added two blocked shots.
Todd added 17 points and four assists.
Taylor Broyles scored eight points for Rock River to round out the scoring.
The Lady Panthers were paced by Ashlynn Fennema and Kristin Klaahsen with eight points each.
Rock River’s defense limited Arvada-Clearmont to 23.9 percent from the field (11 of 46), including a 1 of 14 mark on 3-pointers.
The Lady Longhorns will next play Lingle-Fort Laramie at 9 a.m. today at Casper Kelly Walsh High School for fifth place.
