The Laramie-Rock Springs under-19 girls hockey team beat Cheyenne 5-4 on Sunday in Sheridan to claim its first Wyoming Amateur Hockey League B state title in program history.
Emery Woodruff got the team started by scoring the first goal of the game assisted by Tressa Thompson midway through the first period. Woodruff also assisted on the team’s next two goal, with Emery Punches-Mickelson scoring five minutes later and Hazel Jansen scoring early in the second frame.
Cheyenne scored a goal in each of the first two periods, as Emily Mitchell assisted on both. Mitchell found Shyla Wilson for a goal in the first and Maya Moore for a score in the second.
In the final frame, Moore scored two more goals to complete the hat trick, but Laramie-Rock Springs scored two more goals in the third period to close out the title game.
Punches-Mickelson assisted Woodruff on the team’s first goal of the third period. Punches-Mickelson also scored Laramie-Rock Springs’ final goal off an assist by Haylee Hamilton.
Laramie-Rock Springs goalie Zoey White had 31 saves on 35 shots against to aid her team in the win.
