CHEYENNE – The Team Wyoming under-18 boys hockey team downed the Idaho Junior Steelheads 4-0 in the championship game of USA Hockey’s Tier II 1A national championship Sunday in Delmont, Pennsylvania.
Cheyenne senior Isaak Erickson notched 23 saves to post the shutout in the championship. He finished with 63 saves across three games in goal.
Team Wyoming opened the tournament by scoring four third-period goals to beat Pacific Edge of Oregon, 6-4. It followed with a 3-2 win over Idaho thanks to a goal with 5 minutes, 22 seconds remaining.
Cheyenne’s Kolin Krizan scored both of his goals in the tournament during a 5-3 win over the Delaware Junior Blue Hens. Team Wyoming closed round-robin play by tying the Utah Junior Mustangs in the third period before scoring in overtime for a 3-2 win.
Team Wyoming led Idaho 4-0 after two periods in the championship game.
Cheyenne’s Aaron Gallant served as a team captain and netted one goal and two assists.
