CHEYENNE - Burns' track and field teams swept the team championships at the Dennis Zowada Invitational on Saturday in Lusk, accumulating 177.50 and 179 team points, respectively.
On the girls side, Brynn Bach, Josie Barrett and Bella Laguna picked up first-place finishes. Bach won the 100-meter hurdles, posting a time of 18.06 seconds. She also won the 800 in 2:44.49. Barrett won 300 hurdles (53.19), and Laguna took first in pole vault with a mark of 8 feet, 6 inches.
Shaw Martin, Ethan Norris and Rutley Hansen picked up first-place finishes for the boys. Hansen tied with Lusk's David West for the win in pole vault (11-0), while Norris won the 300 hurdles (42.44). Martin posted a time of 24.42 to win the 200. The 4x800 relay team of Hansen, Sutter Allen, Cooper Sanchez and Parker Ochsner also took first at 9:47.31.
Pine Bluffs' boys finished in fourth, posting 74 team points. Junior Jesus Solis picked up runner-up finishes the 100 (12.13), 200 (24.72), long jump (18-6) and triple jump (38-9).
The girls took fifth, posting 82 team points. Freshman Avery Gray took second place in triple jump (32-0½), and Kailen Martinez placed second in the 300 hurdles with a time of 55.14. The Hornets also had a first-place finish from their 4x400 relay team of Gray, sophomore Reese Graves and freshmen Keefer Fornstrom and Kierstyn Klinginsmith (4:38.18).
