CHEYENNE – No. 2-ranked Cheyenne Central used its ground game to remain undefeated with a 38-12 victory over visiting Kelly Walsh on Friday night.
The Indians rolled up 462 yards of total offense. Senior Carter Lobatos rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns, while classmate Jadyn Cummings added 117 yards and a score.
Lobatos put Central (2-0) on the scoreboard with a 21-yard touchdown with 7 minutes, 10 seconds remaining in the first quarter. He also had a 9-yard TD run midway through the second, and a 9-yarder in the third.
The Indians led 24-0 at halftime.
Senior quarterback Andy Cummins completed 14 of 18 passes for 155 yards, a touchdown and an interception. The TD was a 23-yard toss to senior tight end Brock Storebo early in the second quarter to put Central up 14-0. Junior Nathanial Talich was the Indians’ leading receiver with 66 yards on six catches.
Talich also snared an interception. Nathan Lundberg recovered a fumble, while Andrew Johnson blocked and extra point and Eli Castillo blocked a punt.
Cummings scored on a 34-yard run to put Central up 31-0 in the third quarter. It led 38-0 before the Trojans (1-1) finally got on the scoreboard.
Dom Jahr caught a pass from Trent Walker for a 78-yard catch and run, but fumbled while being tackled. Colin Boroz picked up the ball and took it the final 15 yards for a touchdown.
Kelly Walsh’s final score came on a 2-yard touchdown run by Cam Burkett. Burkett rushed for 70 yards on the night.
Central plays at No. 1 Sheridan (2-0) at 6 p.m. Friday.
