CHEYENNE – The Cheyenne Central girls tennis team will play for championships in all five divisions at the South Regional tournament today in Green River.
Senior Emily Needham won both of her matches at No. 1 singles, as did Cassadie Anderson at No. 2 singles. The No. 1 doubles tandem of Kaitlyn and Ashli Smedley, and the No. 2 team of Sarah Foster and Kaitlyn Ackerman both dropped just two combined games across their two wins. The No. 3 doubles team of Kamryn Tempel and Jena Brown also made the final.
Cheyenne East’s Sydney O’Brien went 2-1 on the day and made the third-place match at No. 2 singles.
The boys No. 1 singles final will be an all-Cheyenne affair between Cheyenne East senior Mason Paskett and Cheyenne South freshman Andrew Lock. Paskett advanced to the final with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 victory over Green River’s Caeden Grubb. Lock won both of his matches in straight sets.
South’s Fletcher Mothershed won a three-setter to make the No. 2 singles final.
Central’s doubles teams of Caden Bogus and Grant Hilton (No. 1) and Jackson Cook and Isiah Rigg (No. 2) both reached their finals. Cook and Rigg lost just three games across their two matches.
Playing for third place today will be Central’s Justin Van Kirk (No. 1 singles), Kellen Flowers (No. 2 singles) and Nate Thornell and Sergio Alvarado (No. 3 doubles); East’s Ryan Johnson and Tyler McCulloch (No. 3 doubles); and South’s Josiah Moyte and Armando Hernandez (No. 1 doubles)and Lukas Davidson and Nicolas Lock (No. 2 doubles).
