CHEYENNE – Cheyenne East sophomore Kaelyn Ronnau will wrestle for fifth place at the National High School Coaches Association’s girls national tournament today in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Ronnau rebounded from an opening loss by pinning Emily Smith of Milford, Pennsylvania, in 27 seconds. She followed with a 34-second pin of Alexandra Lubczenko of Long Beach, New York. Ronnau advanced to the medal round by pinning Abrianna Risner of Cramerton, North Carolina, in 2 minutes, 49 seconds.
Ronnau tallied her fifth victory by pinning Amaya Fairley Vasquez of Corning, California, in 56 seconds. She was dropped into the fifth-place bout when she was pinned by Ayana Fletcher of Columbus, Georgia, in 1:28.
Ronnau will face Lauren Garcia of White Plains, New York, in the fifth-place bout today.
Cheyenne South junior Trinity Warner (100 pounds) rebounded from an opening loss with by pinning Kimberly Picado of Homestead, Florida, in 2:24. Warner followed that with a 1-minute, 17-second pin of Madelynn King of Arab, Alabama. Warner was eliminated from the tournament when she was pinned by Mikayla Williams on Bonaire, Georgia.
East junior Bree Padilla (100) rebounded from an opening loss by picking up a 6-2 decision against Juliana Oxenberg of Laurel, Maryland. Padilla was eliminated from the tournament with a 5-4 loss to Kamyla Torres of Rock Hill, South Carolina.
East freshman Halley House (132) went 1-1 on Saturday, beating Alyssa Posey by major decision 11-1. House then dropped her next match to Galloway, New Jersey’s Lamiah Berry by pin.
East freshman Azlyn Silva dropped her lone bout Saturday to Anabelle Serratos of Laguna Hills, California, 2-0. East junior Joci Davis (235) lost to Greenwood, South Carolina’s Kennedi Washington, 7-0. East sophomore Ryauna Nepomuceno lost her only match Saturday to Autumn Jarvis of Palm Coast, Florida, by pin.
Cheyenne South senior Layne Warburton rebounded from an opening loss by beating South Carolina’s Gavin Wilson 3-1. Warburton was eliminated from the tournament when he was pinned by Timur Beksultan of New York.
