CHEYENNE – Cheyenne South scored 22 unanswered points in the third quarter en route to a 53-27 win over Campbell County on Friday at Campbell Stadium in Gillette.
It’s the first win this season for South (1-7) and first against the Camels (0-7) in the program’s seven-year history.
The 53 points scored by South is also a program record, eclipsing a 47-point mark in an overtime loss to Rock Springs in 2015.
The Bison scored six of their seven touchdowns on the ground. Alex Soto had scores on runs of 30 and 6 yards, while Eric Fowler dived in from 1 yard out and connected with Kobe Floyd on an 18-yard strike.
Dominic Dominquez, Wyatt Garcia and Cari Wright also found the end zone.
Trey Trimble led South on the ground with 134 yards on 22 carries. Soto (122 yards) and Wright (100 yards) also eclipsed the 100-yard mark.
Campbell County held a 24-21 halftime lead after Cameron Kirkwood connected with Trey Hladky on touchdown passes of 28, 53 and 12 yards.
After South took a 53-21 lead in the fourth quarter on Fowler’s touchdown pass, Vijay Pitter found the end zone for the Camels on a 4-yard run.
The Bison defense created one turnover on the night with Jace Packard intercepting a pass from Kirkwood, who was 20 for 29 and 239 yards. Fowler was 5 for 8 with 134 yards through the air for South.
The Bison visit Cheyenne Central (1-8) at Riske Field on Friday, while Campbell County heads to Casper Kelly Walsh.

CHEYENNE – Senior quarterback Haize Fornstrom rushed for four touchdowns and threw for another in the Hornets’ 41-6 win over visiting Southeast.
Andrew Fornstrom was on the receiving end of one of those touchdown tosses. He caught seven passes for 104 yards.
“We found some timing and rhythm in the passing game,” Pine Bluffs coach Will Gray said. “Defensively, we played downhill and physically. This was a great team win.”
Fornstrom rushed for 69 yards, while passing for 153.
Hunter Jeffres posted 10 tackles (three solo and one for loss).

CHEYENNE – Jonathan Harvey’s 1-yard run in the fourth quarter proved to be the game-winning points in Thermopolis’ 24-20 win Friday at Burns.
Logan Cole carried the ball 26 times for 204 yards and a touchdown for the Bobcats.
Burns was led by sophomore Boe Clayson’s 23 carries for 92 yards.
Senior Tyler Norris finished with 10 tackles (three solo), while Clayson added nine (four solo).

Geyer wins two at Gillette Pre-Invite
CHEYENNE – Cheyenne Central senior Sammy Geyer picked up a pair of wins Friday at the Gillette Pre-Invite, touching the wall first in both the 50-yard freestyle (24.11 seconds) and 100 free (51.95).
She was also part of Central’s winning 200 medley relay team (1:54.49), along with Hannah Birge, Rachel Pietsch and Porscha Cavanaugh.
The 400 free relay team of Abi Smith, Geyer, Pietsch and Cavanaugh also placed second in 3:55.65.
Central picked up three new state qualifiers in juniors Hannah Dempsey and Ariah Waller, as well as freshman Trinity Massengill.
Dempsey qualified in both the 50 free (27.37) and 100 free (1:00.80), while Waller made it in the 200 free (2:13.82) and 500 free (6:07.21).
Massengill also qualified in the 500 free (6:07.42).
Central now has 17 state qualifiers on the season.
Cheyenne East picked up two new qualifiers as Saige Smith (1:11.68) and Kendrew Ellis (1:10.96) both made it in the 100 butterfly.
PREP VOLLEYBALL
Sheridan 3, Cheyenne East 2
CHEYENNE – The Lady Broncs rallied from two games down to beat visiting Cheyenne East 22-25, 12-25, 25-20, 26-24, 15-13 on Friday night.
“Sheridan built up a lot of momentum in the first two games it won, but we didn’t control what we could and we let things get to us three or four points after that happened instead of forgetting about them and moving on,” first-year East coach Nicole Quigley said.
Senior Duquesne Moratzka posted 27 digs, 22 kills and four blocks, all of which were team highs. She also had three ace serves.
Senior Jazzy Espinoza added 20 digs, 14 kills and four aces. Classmate Kelsey Crock chipped in with 15 digs and eight kills.
Senior setter Lexi Trowbridge posted 33 assists and eight digs, while classmate Clara Sanders chipped in with 23 assists, 10 digs and four aces.
East plays at noon today against at Campbell County in Gillette.

CHEYENNE – Cheyenne Central fell on the road at Campbell County in four games Friday, 25-16, 17-25, 25-22, 25-21.
Davaney Workman led the Lady Indians with nine kills, while Elizabeth Erickson, Emma Bertagnolli and Paige Blevins each had five.
Erickson also dished out 31 assists.
Bertagnolli had 21 digs, while Alexis Trujillo had 14 and Jordan Harris had 10.
Pine Bluffs 3, Southeast 0
CHEYENNE – Pine Bluffs swept Southeast 25-19, 26-24 and 25-23 on Friday at home.
“The girls played outstanding and didn’t ever let up,” Pine Bluffs coach Lisa Gilbert said. “We missed three serves all night, and when we swung at the ball, they couldn’t stop us. We did a great job of shutting down their two main hitters. The girls are not only playing aggressive, but they are finding the holes.”
Kenzie Graves led the Lady Hornets with 24 assists and went 16 for 16 from the serving line. Paige Thompson (12 for 12) and Torri Long (8 for 8) also had a perfect outing on serves. Long recorded a team-high 12 digs.
Sophie Howard led Pine Bluffs with 10 kills and tied Hyleigh Fornstrom with four blocks. Fornstrom added eight kills and seven digs.
JUNIOR HOCKEY
Ogden 19, Cheyenne 1
CHEYENNE – Ogden scored seven goals in both the first and third periods to pick up the Western States Hockey League victory Friday.
Matus Spodniak scored three goals and assisted on five others. Jacob Laurin scored three times to go with three assists.
Matt McClelland, Ian Currie, Harry Gulliver and Kerry Kruzel all scored two goals. McClelland dished out four assists, while Currie and Gulliver chipped in with two apiece.
Cheyenne’s goal came off the stick of George Leech in the second period. Taylor Rooney and Centis Biks assisted on the goal.
Stampede goaltender Devin Bain turned away 31 shots, while Robbie Brennan added 45 saves.

CHEYENNE – Sophomore setter Kyra Brandt dished out 28 assists to go with 13 digs to help No. 17-ranked Laramie County Community College to a 25-19, 25-23, 26-24 victory Friday at Western Wyoming Community College in Rock Springs.
“We didn’t play our best, especially hitting the ball,” Golden Eagles coach Austin Albers said. “We stayed away from working on offense because that has been clicking, and it bit us in the tail.
“We controlled the first set, and had to fight back in the second and third. We were down by eight in the third, so winning that one showed a lot of maturity for us.”
Sophomore Carlee Morrison posted 12 kills, while Avery Nelson and Jessica Benedict added eight kills each.
LCCC plays at Central Wyoming College at 1 p.m. today in Riverton.
