East's Urban wins twice at Gillette
CHEYENNE – Cheyenne East senior Abby Urban won the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 butterfly at Saturday’s Gillette Invitational, a key tune-up with the state swimming and diving meet three weeks away.
Urban defeated Iliana Jones of Casper Kelly Walsh by nearly 0.5 seconds in the 200 I.M. with a time of 2 minutes, 9.93 seconds, breaking Jenna Wisdorf’s school record in the process. In the 100 butterfly, Urban hit the timing pad in 59.77 seconds, more than three seconds ahead of second place.
East finished fifth as a team with 258 points. East Peyton GrandPre took third in diving with 391.80 points.
Cheyenne Central finished third with 323 points. Freshman Sammy Geyer had the Lady Indians’ best finish, taking second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.21. She also swam the breaststroke leg on Central’s second-place 200 medley relay, joining Katie Summers, Darby Murphy and Catie Berry for a time of 1:57.21. Geyer joined Logan Anderson, Hannah Linde and Murphy for a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:45.82.
The Thunderbirds also had a pair of swimmers qualify in new events. Senior Delaney Prince booked her spot in the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:01.52, and sophomore Mackenzie Hoskins qualified in the 500 free in 6:10.42.
The Indians added three qualifiers. Junior Jacqueline Mead swam a 27.74 in the 50 freestyle, freshman Rachel Troudt swam a 6:10.30 in the 500 freestyle and freshman Jessica Watkins swam a 1:10.73 in the 100 backstroke.
Cheyenne South placed 14th, led by senior Amber Codr’s sixth-place finish in diving. She scored 345.05 points.

CHEYENNE – The Pine Bluffs volleyball team cruised to a 25-7, 25-19, 25-20 victory over visiting Banner County High of Harrisburg, Nebraska, on Saturday afternoon.
Hornets coach Chris Nusbaum played 16 players in the match.
“It was a really good team effort and gave us the opportunity to get some younger players some experience,” Hor-nets coach Chris Nusbaum said.
