The Lady Longhorns are seeded first from the Southeast Conference in the Class 1A East Region Tournament starting today in Douglas while the Longhorns are the No. 2 seed from Southeast for the boys tournament.
The Rock River girls open their tournament against Midwest at 9 a.m. today while the boys take on Midwest at 8:30 p.m.
The Lady Longhorns (14-6 overall, 4-0 Southeast) have been in and out of the Class 1A rankings throughout the season.
Lydia Moore leads the way for Rock River by averaging 14.1 points and 10.8 rebounds a game.
Emma Lyshold averages 12.2 points and 9.7 rebounds while Taylor Broyles leads the team in assists at 5.1 while also pulling down 9.7 rebounds.
But it’s the defense where the Lady Longhorns are at their best. Rock River is fourth in Class 1A in defensive scoring at 31.4 points a game. And five times this season the Lady Longhorns have limited the opposition to 21 points or fewer in a game, including nine against the Laramie High sophomores.
The Lady Longhorns finished the regular season on 10-1 run with the only loss coming to Encampment on Feb. 10.
The Rock River boys went 2-2 in the Southeast Conference this season to earn the No. 2 seed despite an overall record of 4-16.
Tristan Bunce leads the Longhorns in just about every statistical category this winter, including points (16.3) and assists (4.2) and is second in rebounding (6.6).
Jacob Moore tops the team on the glass at 6.7 rebounds while averaging 5.4 points. Chase Hargrow chips in 6.4 points a contest.
The top four teams in both the girls and boys tournaments advance to the Class 1A State Tournament on March 1-3 in Casper.
