Twelve Cheyenne soccer players earn all-state

The Lady Indians also had midfielders Ainsley Basich and Eliza-Grace Smith earn all-state honors. They were joined on the team by Cheyenne East senior Sydney Miller and Cheyenne South senior Raegan Downham.

Meyrick netted six goals and 12 assists to help Central go 15-2 on the season. Lam scored 13 goals and dished out seven assists. Basich, a junior, scored seven goals and assisted on six. Smith, a sophomore, tallied 13 and assisted on six others.

Miller – who has signed with the University of Wyoming – potted 12 goals for the Lady Thunderbirds (12-6), who finished sixth at the 4A state tournament.

Downham – who will play at NCAA Division II Nebraska-Kearney – had one assist while primarily playing defense for the Bison (1-13). Downham also played midfield and forward at times.

All of those players were joined on the All-East Conference team by Central senior goalkeeper Miranda Hinkle and junior forward Makyleigh Howard. Howard was an all-state pick during her freshman and sophomore seasons.

East freshman goalkeeper Kiara Kershaw, junior defender Erin Griess and senior midfielder Abby Erickson also were named to the all-conference team.

On the boys side, East seniors Thomas Watson, Kjell Stehr and junior Carter Rich were named to the all-state team. Central seniors Ethan Mathis and Jadon Lopez also earned all-state accolades.

Watson, a goalkeeper, stopped 50 shots for the T-Birds, who finished the season 10-7-1 and placed fourth at the state tourney. Rich, a midfielder, netted nine goals and assisted on another. Stehr, a defender, had one assist.

Mathis scored 12 goals and dished out one assist for Central (11-6-1), which finished sixth at state. Lopez scored 11 goals and assisted on five others.

Central also had senior defenders Nathan Hasert and Ethan Hundley named to the all-conference squad. Cheyenne South senior goalkeeper Zeuss Jimenez and junior midfielder Pablo Sanchez also earned all-league nods.
