CHEYENNE – Cheyenne East's girls soccer team scored a game-tying goal late in the match to force a draw with Thunder Basin on Friday night.
East surrendered the first goal of the game in the second half off a corner kick. But in the 70th minute, a free kick from Jordan Griess found its way to Marlee Monjaras, who buried it to tie the game.
Due to new Class 4A soccer rules, there are no more overtime games during the regular season.
"We came out a little slow, and to Thunder's credit, they came out strong," East coach Rebecca Valdez said. "It was a little bit of a lesson learned. But I thought our kids responded well, and they were able to fight back and get the goal.
"I was proud of their fight to get back into the game, and we just ran out of time."
